Please join us as we celebrate Lights on Afterschool at CMS ASP! Lights on is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities.
CMS ASP is visiting the Lil' Ladybug Pumpkin Patch in Hay Springs on October 14th. As this is an off-campus field trip, we students will need to be picked up prior to departure (3:30) or when we return at 5:45. Please note that we are returning a little later than usual. If students attend the field trip portion of program, they will not be back to CMS until 3:45, but we will still have homework available, and students who need to leave program prior to 5:45 may go to the library for homework completion or to read. Please contact Ms. Toomey with any questions.
Last week CMS ASP students took a field trip to the CSC
Planetarium in honor of International Space Week. Some of the things they
learned are: If you look at the sun (only through a
solar telescope!) you are actually seeing 8 minutes into the past because of
how long it takes the light from the sun to reach us.White Dwarf planets are like planet-sized
diamondsThe stars in the cluster Pleiades are so
large that if any one of them exploded it would create so much light that we wouldn't have night for 2 weeks straight. When a star explodes it is called a
supernova.NASA is planning on eventually colonizing both our moon and the planet Mars.We also learned about different constellations we
can currently see in our night sky and how the names of stars can often be seen
in popular culture! Check out our pictures below.
CMS ASP is visiting the CSC Planetarium on October 8th, in honor of International Space Week! As this is an off-campus field trip, we students will need to be picked up at prior to departure (3:40) or when we return at 5:30. We will be unable to escort students back to CMS for earlier pickup; however, we will still have homework available, and students who need to leave program prior to 5:30 may go to the library for homework completion or to read. Please contact Ms. Toomey with any questions.
Sport stacking (also known as cup stacking or speed stacking) is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible. On Monday, CMS ASP students watched a sport stacking training video and them competed in a sport stacking tournament against other students and staff. Check out the videos below!
